Pavlov’s Pizza

BigJimmyLTOoct17IRISI’ve discussed before that I really enjoy sporting events for the opportunity to indulge in food.  I’m not sure how many years Garlic Jim’s has been selling the Big Jimmy Pizza during football season, but this is the year that the Pavlovian effect really took hold.

The first time I noticed this, I had just walked into a room where a football game was on the TV. Instantly, I was craving bacon.

The next day I was jogging past a high school where I saw I football fly through the air during practice.  At that moment I felt the strongest urge to eat cheese.

A few days later, while at the mall, I was browsing through the Team Store looking at football jerseys. Suddenly I found myself at the food court searching desperately for a Garlic Jim’s Pizza.  I don’t know how I got there, but I knew for sure that I needed a Big Jimmy Pizza- STAT!

Just as my cat bolts across the room at the very first sound of the cat food bag rustling, any mention of football turns my taste buds into full Big Jimmy Pizza mode.

This conditioned response has been studied and written about for many years and I’m sure that a trained psychologist could break me from this behavior.

But why would I want that?

The Big Jimmy Pizza is something of a masterpiece. As a backwards pizza eater, the first bite for me is the soft, chewy and flavorful dough that Garlic Jim’s is famous for.  The first taste of a Garlic Jim’s Hand Thrown crust immediately brings intense feelings of comfort and joy.  It  truly is the best pizza crust I have ever had. That crust however is just the beginning:  The next layer of the Big Jimmy is an astonishing Roasted Garlic Tomato sauce. I have a hard time describing this genious, but my mouth waters as I think about it.  The toppings are what really gives this pizza its name though. They are indeed big. It’s got salami, pepperoni and Italian sausage -and if you think that is meaty- top it off with bacon! But wait! This pizza is not just made of meat- it has the perfect amount of red onions and green peppers to compliment the hearty meat quartet.

This pizza is amazing, but be warned- it may alter your behavior.

But in a very good way.

Ciao for now

Squished Kaepernick =Happy 12s and Pizza Too!

wp_20150109_001-2Well the Seattle Seahawks had to play the San Francisco 49ers yesterday before they could start concentrating on the playoffs starting next week and things looked a little dicey at times.  I’ll give them a pass though, because my favorite Seahawk has a broken wing.  Get well fast Lockett!!

Anyways, the good news is that we sacked Mr. K. and his decorative arms five times! Good job D! And particularly Frank Clark, who I hadn’t really known about but he seems like quite an upstanding lad after watching an interview with him.  PLUS, he has an amazing name. Frank Clark just oozes coolness!

OK- it’s also good news that we won the game.  That’s important.  Do you know what else is important?  Free Pizza!  Because the Seahawks had over 3 sacks, everyone around these parts gets a free Garlic Jim’s pizza today!  Check out the website for details!

It’s pizza night in the Olive household.  Go Hawks!

Ciao for now!

Oh Boy! It’s that time of year!

Shaker-Sign-Big-Jimmy-32x24Ahhh, September! So many things to love about this month! So many opportunities for a Gourmet Day. Beautiful scenery, cool crisp weather, and of course bountiful food as this is, of course, harvest time.  Today I will just focus on one September activity that some people may not associate with the word Gourmet- but you better believe that Olive sure does! Football. In particular Seahawks football. Of course, those who know me well know that my first September sports choice would be baseball and the Seattle Mariners heading towards the playoffs, but alas, it looks like it was not meant to be this year- so GO HAWKS!  Fair weather fan?  Maybe….

OK- back to food.  Most people associate football with cheap beer and hot wings and not with the word Gourmet.  I would like to argue that if you are truly savoring that cheap beer, than it IS indeed Gourmet! I will be reviewing some great microbrews in future posts, but today I will be discussing the granddaddy of all football food.  PIZZA!

My favorite pizza place, Garlic Jim’s has just introduced what might be the perfect football pizza that is both hefty and sophisticated at the same time. It’s called the Big Jimmy and it is out for a limited time, although I hope they will keep it on the menu for good! What makes this pizza nearly indescribably delicious is the Roasted Garlic Tomato sauce that all of the yummy toppings sit atop. Some genius over at Garlic Jim’s decided to mix the perfect blend of their super fresh tomato sauce with smooth and flavorful garlic basil sauce.  The combination is refined and absolutely perfect for this pizza. Another genius move (and gutsy, I might add) is to combine this sophisticated sauce with big bold toppings such as salami, bacon, spicy Italian sausage and of course Garlic Jim’s famous pepperoni. Red onions and green peppers round this pizza out to make it truly a hearty meal for even the most hungry football fans.  Oh, and did I mention extra mozzarella cheese?  Well now I did.

Tomorrow around half time I will be hopefully enjoying a big Seahawks lead, but if not, I will be enjoying a slice or two (or three) of the Garlic Jim’s new Big Jimmy pizza. Good food and football.  September I love you!
